Our curriculum is unique as we have the flexibility to tailor the individual student’s program to achieve his or her goals while including the proper technique, choreography, and history of the genre while remaining age appropriate. TDA is unique because of our flexibility to work with each student based on their needs and what they want to achieve. Many schools are very rigid on what classes you have to take if you want to be in competition or to do a certain class. TDA is much more flexible while still being able to produce great dancers.
Our faculty and staff maintain a positive, stress-free atmosphere at all times that children feel included and enjoy themselves. We treat each student with respect and as an individual. In return, we expect students to show respect to every faculty and staff member.
As part of their dance education, many students at The Dance Academy will have the opportunity to participate in some of the finest and most challenging dance competitions in the country through our TDA Dance Company.
At the Dance Academy, we focus on:
- Proper technique
- Conditioning
- Terminology
- History of Dance
The following classes are offered at various age and ability levels at The Dance Academy:

We want your children to have fun, develop their creative expression and of course, get much needed exercise. Our instructors teach age-appropriate dance skills for each age level.
The calm mind allows one to connect with the inner self, the Soul, the very source of our being. That’s where the music lives. That’s where my music comes from.
-Clarence Clemons
Our levels of education start with the Teenie-Bopper Division, (age 2 ½ – 5). Around the age of six, a child enters our Main Dance Division, (age 6 and up). These classes are designed for beginners and students who view dance classes as a recreational activity. For those students who are more serious, the Dance Academy offers an Intensive Division of classes. Students who wish to enter this program must audition or have a recommendation from one of their dance instructors.
Our Dance Classes
Young Children’s Division (Age 2.5-5)
The Young Children’s’ Division offers a variety of class choices. Classes range in length from 30 to 75 minutes. We realize children’s strength and abilities increase as they grow which means their class time increases as well.
For Our youngest Dancers we recommend:
Mommy and Me Class – ages 18 months to 2 ½ years
We recommend that our youngest dancers, those under age of 2 ½ begin with our Mommy-n-me class. This allows The Dance Academy to introduce the basics within a song and dance framework while also incorporating the security of having mommy right there in the classroom. As the class progress throughout the season our dancers become independent from mommy.
Creative Tap for 3 and 4 year olds
This is a 45 minute class that offers both creative dance, the introduction of basic tap as well as basic tumbling to our three and four year olds students. This allows The Dance Academy to introduce the basics tap rhythms and creative dance within a song and dance framework with security of knowing that mommy is right in the very next room waiting!
Rumble Tumble Class for 3-5 year olds
This 45 minute tumbling class allows The Dance Academy to teach introductory tumbling skills while also incorporating coordination and rhythms games. It’s a 45 minute class packed full of fun and exercise.
Ballet/Tap Combination classes for 4 and 5 year olds
Ballet Tap combination classes are offered at various levels. The Dance Academy’s combination classes incorporate ballet barre technique; tap rhythms, combinations, progressions, as well as an introduction to jazz and acrobatics.
Kinderdance Enrichment Program For 4 to 6 year olds
The kinderdance enrichment program at The Dance Academy is a combination of classes that meets twice a week and allows young students to gain an in depth experience in ballet, tap, jazz, and acrobatics.
Kids Yoga – coming to The Dance Academy in April
Main Dance Division (age 6 and up)
These dance classes are designed for beginners and students who enjoy dance as a fun activity and for recreation. This division offers a variety of classes for the dancer. There are four levels in the main dance division for boys and girls: Primary, Intermediate, Junior and Senior. Advancement depends upon a student’s progress, not the age of the student. At the end of each year, instructors will recommend class placement for each student the following year.
Intensive Division
The intensive program is designed to allow students to pursue a more rigorous training program at The Dance Academy. This program prepares serious students for a professional career in dance, whether it be on stage, or behind-the-scenes as a choreographer or instructor. The intensive program consists of eight classes per week. A minimum of 2 ballet technique classes, 1 tap, 1 jazz, 1 lyrical, 1 acrobatics, 1 stretch and turns, and 1 hip hop. It is designed to develop well rounded dancers who are proficient and multi-talented performers. It is typically designed to meet the needs of the individual student. Students enter the Intensive Dance Division program through audition or upon the recommendation of their dance instructors.
